Guest Curator, Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson

The Cannon Beach Arts Association is pleased to announce that it will be hosting Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson, the curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum, as the guest curator for the Winter All Juried Show.
A steward of the art scene in the Northwest, Laing-Malcolmson promises to be a dynamic curator and a great draw for artists from across the region.
A Seattle native, Malcolmson has spent most of her life in the region. As the Northwest curator at PAM, she curated a solo exhibits each year for the museum’s APEX program, which highlights artists from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. In addition, every two years, she’ll assemble the Contemporary Northwest Art Awards, a group show that focuses on the work of several regional artists.
The Submission date for artists to drop up to three original pieces of artwork to the Cannon Beach Gallery will be Friday, January 30 between 10 am – 4 pm. That evening, the CBAA will host a Mix and Mingle gathering with the CBAA’s Executive Director and Gallery Committee Members at the Cannon Beach Cafe between 5-7 pm, artists participating in the juried show are encouraged to come and join the festivities. There is no charge, libations and light refreshments will be served.
The curatorial process will happen on Saturday, January 31 during the morning hours. Artwork that is not accepted into the exhibit will be available to pick up starting Saturday afternoon between 2 pm – 4 pm and on Sunday, February 1 between 10 am – 4 pm.
The opening Artist’s reception will be held the following weekend, Saturday, February 7, 2015. Laing- Malcolmson will be on hand during the artist’s reception to meet artists and patrons. In addition, plans are underway for an additional, ticketed event with Malcolmson on Sunday, February 8, 2015. Watch for further details.
The Winter All Juried Show will run from February 4 – March 1, 2015.
There is no theme or size limitations for this exhibition, artists working in both two and three dimensional media are encouraged to participate. There are no application fees to participate in the CBAA’s Juried Show program, however, artists are encouraged to become members of the arts association. CBAA Members get special notices about all of the exhibits at the Cannon Beach Gallery, including Call For Work notices, a year long exhibition calendar and monthly exhibit postcards. In addition, membership dollars help fund the Cannon Beach Gallery space with it’s twelve, distinct exhibits annually.
