CANNON BEACH , OREGON – Haystack Gallery, celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year, has set aside the month long April Exhibition for their “Whimsical” artists: Bishop/Cowdery, Sonya Paz, Sue Howells, and Bart DeGraaf.
Melinda Cowdery and Lynn Bishop have been friends as well as professional artists for 25 years. The whimsical mixed media wall pieces, each hand made in acrylics and enameled glass on wood and metal represents their combined efforts.
Sonya Paz. Creating a new direction in the Pop Art…movement through her exuberant use of color and playful forms. Bold shapes and vibrant colors leap off her canvases, while her images explode in an energetic and wildly whimsical style.Sonya has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism, Modernism and Surrealism.
Sue Howells has been active in the market place for several years, and now has a reputation as one of the top selling artists in the UK, providing work for Harrods and John Lewis, as well as for galleries abroad – from the USA to New Zealand.
Bart DeGraaf was born in Chicago , received his BFA from Denver and recently moved to Portland where he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. “I find the act of painting to be euphoric. I have a passion for color, texture, movement and design. The imagery I use is pulled from my surrounding, experiences and my imagination.”

Bronze Coast Gallery welcomes ‘Magic Hands’, a paws-up, personality packed raccoon cast in bronze by nationally acclaimed artist Joshua Tobey. Magic Hands is the latest addition to Tobey’s ‘Breakfast Club’ series, a collection of animals including a wolf, a bear, and a bobcat. The animals are adversaries as much as friends who get together to socialize, tell stories, and tease each other. “My goal is to tell the human story using wildlife,” Tobey said. “Whether the sculpture is large or small, I want the animal to make eye contact with the viewer. I want them to be invited into the story. It’s no accident that the animals often tell us something about ourselves.”
