Bay Bound Nurse Log
It would be interesting to know just how long some of these old logs have been floating around inside the bay. I’ve observed some for over 40 years as I’ve contemplated painting them. They are one of many things that say “Pacific Northwest” to me.
Nurse Logs are a bit like a tiny island that occasionally, on exceptionally high tides associated with heavy rainfall, simply floats away in silence to a new location with little or no damage done. As they decompose over time their nutrient rich “soil” provides a start for the next generation.

Cherry Blossom Showers
Outside, behind my studio, grows a cherry tree. We welcome the blooms each year with a sigh of relief knowing another winter is waning. The studio window frames it in such a way that one day as a gust of wind blew the loose blossoms from their hold I thought what a unique painting that would make. We framed this watercolor as I have a few other times for special paintings with polyester resin on the inside of the glass so it looks as though you are gazing out a window with raindrops on the outside which I was as inspiration struck.

Into & Out Of
The fog that is! I love the fact that there’s always something going on at the beach. Some days it’s as simple as the breakers slowly dissipating at our feet at the edge of the sea, and that’s just fine with me. Walking at the south end of Cannon Beach takes you past these two basalt sea stacks at Silver Point. I’m frequently on this peaceful stretch of sand in the mornings as I prepare for the day ahead.

Where Daffodils Still Bloom
Decades ago there were several beach homes along the stretch of coast between Silver Point and Arcadia Beach. The cost of maintenance and repair of the access road eventually drove the State of Oregon to purchase the land from the owners. The blooming daffodils each spring remind me of that charming, now long gone little beach front community.
