
Each spring, Cannon Beach art galleries collect the latest works from their featured artists to showcase at the Spring Unveiling Arts Festival. That tradition continues this spring over the weekend of May 5-7. The galleries will welcome some of their most popular artists as guests in the galleries during the weekend or will curate special exhibitions of their latest works.
At this year’s event, attendees can stamp a “passport” at each gallery they visit to be eligible for prize drawings. Passports are available at each participating gallery. Here’s a look at what’s happening in the galleries:
Archimedes Gallery
Archimedes Gallery is focused on exhibiting emerging and established artists from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The gallery seeks to create a space that is responsive to the evolution of new contemporary art, while being accessible to a diverse public. Our contemporary aesthetic currently ranges from Realism to Surrealism with a focus on illustrative work. Our goal is to introduce a different dynamic to the long standing reputation of the Cannon Beach art scene.

Basalt Pottery
The downtown Cannon Beach pottery studio will feature the work of resident artist, ceramicist Michelle Valigura with guest artists including illustrator Jason Sturgill; and Amanda Visell, a multidisciplinary artist that identifies mostly as a painter and sculptor who has built an extensive world of characters.

Bronze Coast Gallery
The gallery is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with featured artists including Sharon Amber, a long-time Cannon Beach jewelry maker; Margret Short, who specializes in still life and floral subjects in oils using fine linens and paint handmade from ground pigments and minerals; and Tony Hochstetler, a sculptor of unusual animals and botanical subjects.

Friday, May 5 – Sharon Amber Unveiling with light refreshments (4pm). The gallery is open
through 6pm.
Saturday, May 6 – Unveiling of new work by Tony Hochstetler (2pm). 30th Anniversary Celebration with light refreshments. Unveiling of new work by Margret Short (5pm) with artists’ reception through 7pm.

Cannon Beach Gallery
Cannon Beach Gallery will present a group show titled “Floriferous” featuring work by Mary Lyn Gough, Mary Suzanne Garvey, Lorijo Daniels and Margie Norton. This exhibition will be on view May 5 – June 11.

DragonFire Gallery
Featured artists who will be in attendance and will be demonstrating in the gallery include Joanne Shellan who uses acrylics to depict both landscapes and modern life; landscapes and seascapes by oil painter Mandy Main; and nature inspired fused glass by Ann Cavanaugh.

Images of the West
Renowned nature photographer Randall J, Hodges will be at Images of the West all weekend, discussing his latest work, sharing recent adventures and will show off the back of his camera.
He will also discuss options for photographic presentation and display including gallery wrapped canvas, metal prints on aluminum and Lumachrome HD Acrylics.

Jeffery Hull Gallery
The gallery is celebrating its 36th year in Cannon Beach and Jeffrey Hull has been capturing the beauty and moods of the places where the land meets sea in watercolors for over five decades and oils for over 15 years.

Friday, May 5 – Jeff will unveil his new original work (5pm). Artist Reception with live music (5:30pm).
Saturday, May 6 – Jeff will unveil his latest giclee prints (11am). The gallery will have extended evening hours, with an Open House reception.

Miska Studio Gallery
The Gallery will feature metal sculpture by Phil Seder including his new “Scrap Boat Series;” mixed media by Courtney Holton who creates abstract pieces using metal and paper bands with acrylic paint; and glass artist Beth Anderson with new fused glass flowers, mosaic pieces and artistic end tables.

Northwest by Northwest Gallery
Celebrating it’s 36th anniversary, NW by NW Gallery and will feature work by contemporary and plein air painter Hazel Schlesinger; “Imaginary Neighborhood” paintings by Laura O’Brien; contemporary sculpture by Steve Stegall who works in the folk-art tradition with stone and wood carving; contemporary mixed media sculpture by Harro honoring salmon; paintings and bronze sculpture by Don Stastny; bronze sculpture by Georgia Gerber; and sculpture by Ivan McLean.

Saturday May 6 – Reception with artists (1-4pm). Wines by Sineann Winery (3- 7pm), music with Bobcat Bob on Guitar (4- 7pm).

White Bird Gallery
Spring Unveiling featured artists include Christopher Mathie who will be in attendance all weekend with a new collection of large-scale abstractions and new seascapes; Jeremy Newman & Allison Ciancibelli will also be featured with a new selection of blown glass sculpture; and Faryn Davis who will have a new collection of paintings and jewelry created with layered resin and natural found objects, combined with paint and ink.
