Meet the artists

Melissa Cooper, “Berry Sweet,” bronze

Melissa Cooper

By the age of 17, Melissa Cooper had spent ten years working in a foundry, helping to support her sculptor father’s bronze work. That gave her an invaluable education in bronze from the ground up, and she can visualize a complex design and bring it to reality. Her widely collected wildlife art is known for its graceful shape and, as the artist puts it, “fluffy and robust” charm. An impressionistic style suits the bodies of her creatures, but the faces are detailed to give each animal spirit and personality.

David Crawford, “Lola,” bronze

David Crawford

Growing up among cattle ranchers, David Crawford didn’t take art too seriously and focused his creative energy on functional objects. He earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Eastern Oregon University and began his art career in Portland. Three years later he moved to Enterprise, Oregon, where both of his sons were born. He started out in furniture and gradually moved to working primarily in bronze. In 1993 his family moved to Halfway, Oregon, where he maintains his studio and the foundry where he casts his work.

Crystal Lockwood, “Dance of the Deep,” redwood with copper patina

Crystal Lockwood

Based in Washington State, Crystal Lockwood began sculpting at 17, apprenticing under Sigmund de Tonancour. For the past 36 years she has won numerous awards in exhibits on the West Coast and in Hawaii. She is well known for ethereal, metamorphic sculptures of the human figure, created from found driftwood. She personally selects each piece of wood for its natural energy and flow, and works the human form into it. Crystal has also expanded her practice to include stone and bronze sculpture.

Robert Rogers, “Night Sky Cuff Bracelet,” sterling silver with coral, turquoise, and man-made opal

Robert Rogers

Robert Rogers is inspired by many cultures and historic lore, and greatly influenced by his visits to the great art meccas of Europe. For more than 40 years he has designed and created fine jewelry as an art and an expression of love for the craft. His highly detailed work reflects his skills as both a jeweler and a master wax carver. His pieces are layered by the making itself and by a descriptive storyline that develops with the feeling and passion of each piece as it is created.

About the exhibition

To celebrate the 2026 Stormy Weather Arts Festival, the Jeffrey Hull Gallery will feature Hull’s newest original work and prints. Jeff started painting in his teens, but focused on his fascination with watercolors over 50 years ago and never looked back. These days he works in both watercolor and oil, and his command of painting and love for the Pacific Northwest Coast place the viewer directly into scenes of sandy beaches, wind-sculpted trees, and dramatic cliffs draped in coastal mist. The gallery has been a part of the Stormy Weather Arts Festival since it began, the same year the gallery opened in 1987.
