Sheila Evans pastels are beautiful , lyrical and sensitive…her subtle , intuitive sense of color makes me think of Turner or Constable-or the hues you hear in a Yo-Yo Ma cello solo”. Ben Mitchell, Senior Curator of Art, Northwest Museum of Art & Culture
Congratulations to Sheila as she has just sold a work for the permanent museum collection of the pastel museum in France after she received the Award for Creativity from the Saint Aulaye’s Pastels Salon International. The museum is named for the town Saint Aulaye,
Dordogne, France. Sheila holds signature membership with the Pastel Society of America and the Northwest Pastel Society. All works are presented to museum archival standard.
Sheila uses soft pastel on archival paper . Iridescent effects emerge as she builds layer upon layer, alternating cool and warm tones. Her paintings are all original, one of a kind works- never a reproduction of any kind.

“The Printed Image”
“Annual Ceramics Invitational”
MARCH 17 – APRIL 30, 2012

White Bird Gallery begins the spring season with complementary exhibitions featuring ceramics and printmaking by artists who use both traditional and experimental techniques.

“The Printed Image” includes work by Liza Jones who is know for her skillful etchings and drypoints of landscape, figurative and animal subjects. Natural scenes also inspire etchings by Marsha Mello and Michael DiBitetto. Bill Schlegel’s psychologically charged monotypes combine unique collage elements and Marcy Baker’s botanical inspired designs also fuse monotype and collage. Arleigh Wood and Julia Gardner both utilize photographic imagery to create mixed media compositions. Two new artists complete the show, Sarah Lippold who uses monoprinting to evoke subtleties of the landscape and Paul Gentry who’s detailed wood engravings capture both natural and urban scenes.

This years Ceramics Invitational includes Jan Rentenaar’s sculptures inspired by folklore and legends from around the world as well as the popular sculptures of Robin & John Gumaelius who incorporate welded steel into their imaginative figurative and bird forms. New artist Eric Boos will be introduced with his playful biomorphic vessels dubbed “Almost Edible”. Cindy Searles creates functional wares with flora and fauna motifs while gallery artists Larry Halvorsen and Karl Yost both create sculptural vessels and ceramic wall relief pieces.
