New works by Melissa Cooper and Mark Gatewood at Bronze Coast Gallery
Bronze Coast Gallery announces the arrival of several new works by two relative newcomers to the gallery, Mark Gatewood and Melissa Cooper.
Cooper sculpts wildlife with a focus on birds. ‘Aspen and Blues 2’ is a bronze vessel with four blue birds clinging to aspen branches encircling the vase. Cooper also delivered three smaller bronzes that are superb representations of a wren, a chickadee, and a vireo. Cooper believes that facial features and detail are the key to infusing the animal with spirit and personality.
Gatewood delivered two new paintings, ‘Detour’ and ‘Elusive’, both done with acrylics and resin on curved wood frames. He incorporates this sculptural aspect to his paintings, using three dimensional casts of industrial resin painted in layers and applied to the surface of the structure, creating a very dramatic and involving visual experience.
Special “Whimsy” April Art Exhibition at Haystack Gallery
CANNON BEACH , OREGON – Haystack Gallery, celebrating its 35th Anniversary this year, has set aside the month long April Exhibition for their “Whimsical” artists: Bishop/Cowdery, Sonya Paz, Sue Howells, and Bart DeGraaf.
Melinda Cowdery and Lynn Bishop have been friends as well as professional artists for 25 years. The whimsical mixed media wall pieces, each hand made in acrylics and enameled glass on wood and metal represents their combined efforts.
Sonya Paz. Creating a new direction in the Pop Art…movement through her exuberant use of color and playful forms. Bold shapes and vibrant colors leap off her canvases, while her images explode in an energetic and wildly whimsical style.Sonya has a passion for Modern Art, Pop Art, Cubism, Modernism and Surrealism.
Sue Howells has been active in the market place for several years, and now has a reputation as one of the top selling artists in the UK, providing work for Harrods and John Lewis, as well as for galleries abroad – from the USA to New Zealand.
Bart DeGraaf was born in Chicago , received his BFA from Denver and recently moved to Portland where he fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. “I find the act of painting to be euphoric. I have a passion for color, texture, movement and design. The imagery I use is pulled from my surrounding, experiences and my imagination.”
